Two girls at the piano

Painting, 1892, 116×90 cm

Description of the artwork «Two girls at the piano»

The fearless and visionary French art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel in 1892, opens the exhibition. The exhibition is dedicated to Renoir. Even 10 years ago, Durand-Ruel bought impressionist paintings, that they die not of hunger, and the idea of such an event seemed audacious even for him. And now he had to collect the exposure for the most significant paintings of Renoir with the new owners.

111 works written quite recently and a long time ago, were assembled in the gallery and presented to the enraptured the Parisians. Over the last 20 years they have learned to see differently: sunlight on the skin "Nude" they do not seem cadaveric spots, three-dimensional, passionate brushstrokes don't look like daubs. This exhibition is an important for the 50-year-old Renoir event: the first picture of buys by the Department of fine arts for the Luxembourg Museum. Once sold the painting for 50 francs, Renoir gets her 4 thousand! This picture "Two girls at the piano". Then she was treated to a magical destiny: the Louvre, the Gallery of modern art, the jeu de Paume and finally to the musée d'orsay.

And while the French were accustomed to impressionism, impressionist, each was thinking what to teach the French on, inventing new techniques and mix on a palette of new colors. After traveling to Italy, after a meeting with Rafaeland Ingres Renoir was scraping with my palette all this bright emerald green and transparent pink, gently squeezed paint from the tubes with ochre and cobalt began trace the shape persistent loop. He is convinced that impressionism did not realize the importance of classical drawing. Very soon renourish palette gets bored – and he returns there to start red, white, black and all the rest.

The painting "Girls at the piano" by Renoir wrote in the enthusiastic period of the output of the classic crisis and finding his own pictorial language. "Pearly" period – call it art for the special, not impressionistic and does not ingrosso, iridescence colors. And the shadows on the dresses, and the hair of the two girls, and the curtain in the background, and the reflections of the light on the piano creates a solid shimmering, full of mutual reflexes, glowing from the inside a little universe where everything is connected and nothing without each other is impossible. This art world is nothing to add and nothing to subtract. It is perfectly balanced.
