Description of the artwork «Pine forest»

This "Pine forest" decorated the billiard room of Nicholas II. How the picture got to the far East? For the answer to this question will have to remember the post-revolutionary period. The owners of palaces and estates, the owners of the richest collections of threw everything and emigrated. Valuable art objects were removed and brought to Moscow and Petrograd. After some time the repository of the museums were overcrowded. It was decided to replenish the collection of the provincial museums. So in the Khabarovsk Museum has got a lot of important paintings, including the "Pine forest" Shishkin.

The author is identified at first sight: before us is a typical Shishkin monumental landscape, so beloved of them centuries-old pine trees that seem to hold the sky on their tops. Give the authorship Shishkin and his characteristic is quite discreet flavor, but the virtuoso techniques of chiaroscuro. The picture depicts a fine, most likely a summer day, however, in Sosnovy Bor and in such weather prevails coolness and humidity: a puddle in the foreground dries and enhances the feeling of thick, filled with pine scents the air.
