The song of prophetic birds
State Tretyakov gallery presents a unique exhibition of one painting "The song of prophetic birds" dedicated to the 170th anniversary of the birthday of the artist V. M. Vasnetsov and the 100th anniversary of the death of the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna.

For the first time in many years, the Tretyakov gallery gives visitors the opportunity to see the famous work of V. M. Vasnetsov "Sirin and Alkonost. A song of joy and sorrow." For a long time the painting was kept in the vaults of the Museum. Besides being able to see the painting, the exhibition provides a multimedia program showing documents, sketches, drawings, photographs and objects that tell the story of the relationship of the artist Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov and Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna.

The life and work of V. M. Vasnetsov (1848-1926) is largely linked to the fate of the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna (1864-1918). A personal acquaintance of the Grand-Ducal couple with a painter occurred in 1893. The artist visited the home of Sergei Alexandrovich and Elizabeth Feodorovna, gave them her drawings and watercolors, and made according to his sketches, the icon cases.

Elizaveta Fyodorovna was doing charity work all his years in Russia. Famous for founding the Marfo-Mariinsky convent and leaving the secular life, the Princess donated works of art from the family collection of the largest museums of Russia. Among the paintings donated to the Tretyakov gallery, and the painting "Sirin and Alkonost. A song of joy and sorrow."

In this famous work the author has reinterpreted the Slavic folk story about coming from heaven sweet birds, giving the characters a contrast value of two opposite sides of life.

His extraordinary project, the Tretyakov gallery continues its series of exhibitions of magic tricks that attract the attention of the layman to the chosen work of art, changing the exposure and enhance the impression of visitors about the Russian art of the past centuries.
