Marie Cattoli: The thread of Art Nouveau from Miro to Man Ray
Barnes Foundation presents the exhibition "Marie Cattoli: The thread of Art Nouveau from Miro to Man Ray".

In the 1930s, leading contemporary artists in Paris experimented with tapestry design thanks to pioneer entrepreneur Marie Cattoli (1879–1973).

Cattoli collected works by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Juan Miro and Georges Braque. This exhibition traces her career, from her early work in fashion and interiors to her revival of the French tapestry industry. She commissioned the most famous artists of her time - Rouault, Leger, Picasso, Braque, Le Corbusier, Man Ray and Miro to create projects for historical tapestry workshops in Aubusson.

Combining these important paintings and drawings with the resulting tapestry, this exhibition shows their true purpose, revealing the deep dialogue of modernism with decorative art.
