Sita and Rama: Ramayana in Indian painting
Paintings on thisexhibitionCreated between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries for the courtyards of Rajput and Pahari in northern India, they reflect the collective imagination of the Ramayana, an epic narration written by the Sanskrit poet Valmiki in the fifth century BC.

The works illustrate the salvation of the hero of Rama, his beloved wife Sita after her abduction by Ravana, an evil demon with ten heads.
