After nearly 150 years of entertainment, one of the oldest American circuses, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, held its final show in 2017, marking the end of an era.
American artists were inspired by the phenomenon of the circus - from vivid ideas about the performances in the center of attention to the complex dynamics between the artists and their audiences. They celebrated the often unsung people, whose collective sweat and labor provided a terrific spectacle. The artists provided an intimate look at the everyday life of the performers outside the ring and the influence of exhausting schedules.
"Under the dome"reveals the anatomy of the circus. The exhibition demonstrates the awe and surprise that the circus causes viewers and artists, as well as many backstage elements that are an integral part of the success of the greatest show in the world.
