About the exhibition
An exhibition is held in the exhibition hall of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine "Modern Ukrainian impressionism"dedicated to the 145th anniversary of the opening of the first exhibition of the Impressionists in Paris, held on April 15, 1874. This is a joint project of the Exhibition Directorate of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and the charitable foundation “Ukraine is us”. Presented are works by Ukrainian impressionist artists of the second half of the twentieth century and modern Ukrainian artists.

Ukrainian impressionism has a long history. The ideas of this style were drawn by many Ukrainian artists who visited France in the late XIX - early XX century. In the second half of the XIX century, Paris actually became the center of world culture. Visiting Paris, Ukrainian artists continued their education there and worked, creating works of art influenced by the works of their French comrades, absorbing all the new things that French culture was so rich with. Among the artists who became followers of the first impressionists were such outstanding masters as Alexander Murashko, Mikhail Tkachenko, David Burliuk, who in the early period of his work created paintings in the style of impressionism, as well as many others.

In 1917, the Ukrainian Academy of Arts was opened, where the ideas of impressionism found fertile ground.
