Howard Hodgkin: Absent Friends
National portrait galleryin London introduced the first an exhibition of portraitsone of the most significant British artists Howard Hodgkin. A pioneer of expressionism and abstraction, the artist all his life claimed that his main source of inspiration — the people, their feelings, relationships and experience with them.
Hodgkin wasn't looking for photographic accuracy in his portraits, and his abstract works convey emotions, the thrill of meeting two people.
Paintings of sir Howard are characterized by intense color, a complex illusory space and sensual brushstroke
The role of memory, expression of emotions, the study of relationships between people and places is the main objective of a 65-year artistic career of the great painter. The exhibition explores the development of the personal portrait of the visual language of Hodgkin's, which challenged the traditional forms of this art genre.
At the exhibition visitors will see the portraits of Peter Blake, Patrick Caulfield, Gillian wise, David Hockney, Philip king, and R. B. Kitaj.
Unfortunately, Howard Hodgkin died on 9 March 2017, and not having to witness the Grand opening of a retrospective of his paintings.
