Led at the Drawing school IPH icon-painting workshop (1913). Studied the monuments in the Russian North. Participated in the painting of the Church on 2nd St. Christmas in St. Petersburg. (1915). In 1932 selected in the corresponding members of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The author of works on non-aqueous solutions.

Obuchalsya in St. Petersburg, Perm artist Vladimir Alexandrovich Plotnikov opened for Russians a window of art and culture, facing the North Ural Solikamsk, Usolye, Nirobe. Driving all along and across the verkhnekamie region in search of monuments of art and antiquities, the carpenters performed many paintings and drawings with the architectural masterpieces of Solikamsk. These interesting art works were widely reproduced in Russia and Western Europe in the form of black-and-white and color postcards and placed in different magazines. Plotnikov was a great master of his craft: he passed with honor through the St. Petersburg Academy of arts, studied in the academic Studio of I. E. Repin, together with D. Kardovsky, Myasoedova, Konstantin Somov, by Malawinet. In the collection of the Perm art gallery is now over fifty watercolors and two paintings Plotnikova.
