Vasily Vasilyevich Vereshchagin. To the 175th anniversary from the birthday
175 years since the birth of painter and writer Vasily Vasilyevich Vereshchagin State Russian Museum decided to celebrate the unique exhibition of his works.
The world-famous painter hated war, because he carefully considered it from the inside. Although Vereshchagin and abandoned the military career, he later participated in the conquest of Turkestan, the Russian-Turkish, and later, the Russo-Japanese war, where he died in the explosion of the battleship "Petropavlovsk" on a mine near Port Arthur.
Exhibition "Vasily Vasilyevich Vereshchagin. To the 175th anniversary from the birthday"presented more than 150 works from the collections The Russian Museum, The state Tretyakov gallery, The state Historical Museumart museums of Pskov, Cherepovets, Ivanovo, Kostroma, Novgorod, Yaroslavl, Kazan and private collections.
At the exhibition the famous Turkestan and Balkan series of paintings, the viewer will see more fully a little-known facet of the artist. It landscape studies and ethnographic motifs, made in different years. Also for the first time in a large volume of the graphic work of Vereshchagin.
The exhibition includes little-known documentary material from the archives of the State Russian Museum and everyday objects related to the life and work of Vasily Vereshchagin from the collection The Russian Museum of Ethnography.
