The Swedish Museum of Contemporary Art hosts an exhibition"Face to face. Alberto Giacometti ".

Visitors will get acquainted with the sculpture and painting of the author and follow the development of Giacometti's art, from post-cubism and surrealism to post-war realism.

"Face to face. Alberto Giacometti ”is the first major retrospective of Giacometti's work in Sweden in more than twenty years. The exhibition was developed in close collaboration with the Fondation Giacometti in Paris. Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) came to Paris at the age of twenty-one to study sculpture at the Accademia Grande Chaumiere. Initially, he was involved in the intellectual life of the city, which, before World War II, gathered artists and writers from all over the world. Giacometti was especially impressed by communication with three authors: Georges Bataille, Jean Genet and Samuel Beckett. This exhibition explores how encounters with Beckett's irrational, claustrophobic worlds, Bataille's violent opposition to rigid conventions, and reverent portrayal of the shadowy side of society have left their mark on Giacometti's work.
