Exploring the Acrobatic Family - A Look at Picasso

Exhibition October 26, 2019 − May 31, 2021
Gothenburg Art Museum hosts an exhibition"Exploring the Acrobatic Family - A Look at Picasso".

Visitors will be able to see the famous painting "A Family of Acrobats" and other works by Pablo Picasso from the museum's collection.

The “Acrobatic Family” was once owned by art collectors, brothers and sisters Leo and Gertrude Stein, whose home in Paris was an important meeting point for artists and intellectuals. The painting was one of the first works by Picasso bought by Leo Stein from art dealer Clovis Sagot in the fall of 1905, and the acquisition marked the beginning of an important friendship between Picasso and the Stein siblings. "Family of Acrobats" belongs to a series of works written by Picasso in early 1905 for an exhibition in Paris. This series marks the beginning of a "rosy" period, when Picasso moved to lighter tones in his work, both in terms of mood and in terms of paint.
