Degas at the Opera

National Gallery of Art, Washington hosts large exhibition"Degas at the Opera"dedicated to the 350th anniversary of the famous Paris Opera.

Visitors will see more than 100 of the best works by Edgar Degas, including paintings, pastels, drawings, prints and sculptures by the French master.

The dancers theme dominated Degas' work for nearly four decades. A music lover and a regular spectator, Degas explored both the public spaces of the Paris Opera - the auditorium, stage and foyer, and more private ones, including the dance studios and backstage. He was friends with many people he portrayed in his paintings, from dancers, singers and orchestra musicians to bankers and philanthropists.
