Picasso, Chagall, Yavlensky. Masterpieces of the Obersteg Collection

Exhibition February 22 − May 24, 2020
The collection as an expression of an individual biography documents the development of enthusiasm, passion and aesthetic preferences. A private collector does not collect according to recognized criteria. Unlike an academic expert, he can find inspiration in a heterogeneous one.

Karl Im Obersteg's strategy was to surround himself with art that excited and challenged him. The collector has devoted most of his life to the study of art. This was very well documented and therefore also well informed of the potential masterpieces that he acquired at a very early stage. Besides the spirit of discovery, he also explored niche artists who were hardly known at the time.

The result of this more than 50 years of collaboration with art is the exhibition "Picasso, Chagall, Yavlensky. Masterpieces of the Obersteg Collection"- a collection of personal preferences and international fame.
