Boris Kustodiev is an artist whose talent from childhood was formed in his native Astrakhan under the strict guidance of a painter and graphic artist, a graduate of the Imperial Academy of ArtsP. A. Vlasova. In the future, Kustodiev’s career was also associated with the oldest educational institution in St. Petersburg: in 1896 he was enrolled in the Higher Art School at the Academy, became a student and assistant painter I.E. Repin, received first prizes, earned the title of artist, the right to retirement trips to Europe and the title of academician of painting. From the very beginning of his career, the master’s success spread beyond Russia: his works received the highest awards at international exhibitions in Munich, Venice, and Brussels. Kustodiev did not leave a keen interest in various techniques of fine and plastic art in spite of an incurable disease: he worked productively and regularly participated in exhibitions until his death at the age of 49.
