John Kerrin

Exhibition November 26, 2019 − February 29, 2020
In Hong Kong, Gagosyan Gallery showcases a series of new worksJohn Kerrin. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong and his first exhibition in Asia. The exhibition presents a new series of female portraits of the author. Critics call him the greatest provocateur in the world of art, and his work - the embodiment of a delicate balance between lust and disgust.

“Some kind of distortion is always hidden in adoration,” says John Kerrin.

In his provocative, sometimes shocking stories, the artist analyzes the changes in social and sexual boundaries in the visual arts that have arisen with the development of society and the media. The author combines the classical techniques of painting of the Northern Renaissance with modern "glossy" images from erotic and fashion magazines. Drawing a parallel with the works of Renaissance masters, Kerrin criticizes the phenomenon of “exclusive standards” and stereotypes imposed on society, emphasizing how conventional and changing ideals of beauty can be.
