Animals fall, soar and rush through the pages of the bestiary, a popular type of medieval book describing the beasts of the world. Replete with bright and fascinating images, the bestiary revived the imagination of readers with real and fantastic creatures. These cherished monsters were so cherished that they often “saved themselves” from manuscripts in order to inhabit other works of art created in the medieval period.
