Anatoly Gankevich. Past noses

Exhibition April 24 − May 10, 2019
In the art space of the Mironova Foundation an exhibition of Anatoly Gankevich takes placePast noses". This is the first graphic project of the Odessa artist, known for his "mosaic" style of painting. The exhibition includes 16 works, which depict the death masks of Roman patricians with noses repulsed by an implacable time.

The works are created on the basis of real antique death masks in the original style of bio-graphics, which the author invented for artistic visualization of the biography of the person and his philosophical message. Graphic portraits from the project seem to repeat the technique of Roman death masks, where the plaster mold was animated with terracotta clay, painted, “opened” the eyes and “closed the mouth”. The damaged noses, which we see in ancient bas-reliefs and sculptures, are of particular importance in Gankevich’s project - this is a certain tunnel, a portal between the past and the future.

Anatoly Gankevich was born in 1965 in Odessa. Attended courses at the National Center for Contemporary Art on Yakimanka, took private painting lessons. Solo exhibitions were repeatedly held in Moscow, Kiev, Odessa. The artist's works are in the State Russian Museum, as well as in many private collections in Europe.
