From the Bose Museum: El Greco, Goya and a Taste for Spain

Exhibition September 15, 2019 − January 12, 2020
The Bowes Museum in the UK is home to the largest collection of Spanish painting in the British Isles. The collection is the work of the whole life of John and Josephine Bowes, who, thanks to key connections with dealers in Paris, assembled a collection known for its depth and breadth, quality and quantity in the second half of the XIX century.

The exhibition features artists such as Juan de Valdez Leal, Claudio Coelho, El Greco and Francisco de Goya, as well as paintings on panels and canvas, from the beginning of the sixteenth to the end of the eighteenth century. It was a critical period in the history and development of Spanish art, when artists moved from the production of large saints inlaid with gold to intimate portraits and scenes taken from nature, as in the case of Goya’s heartbreaking interior.

«From the Bowes Museum"- an exhibition of saints and sinners, secular and sacred similarities, designed to revive devotion, admiration and discomfort.
