Exhibition"Antonello da Messina" in Palazzo Real in Milan is considered one of the most important cultural events of 2019, not only in Italy, but also internationally. This is a unique and special opportunity to discover the world of a sublime and immaculate artist, who is considered the greatest portrait painter of the 15th century, who left an indelible mark on the history of Italian painting.
19 works by Antonello da Messina (1430-1479) are presented in Milan for the first time. Some of the works - like those of other great artists - survived natural disasters, such as floods, earthquakes, tidal waves, and human ignorance. They are scattered in various collections and museums in Europe and the rest of the world. Many have undergone several complex restorations that have forever changed their original appearance, others have come down to us miraculously intact.
