Biography and information

With 1457 Hans Pleydenwurff settled in Nuremberg and introduced a new realistic style in local painting, imbued with the influence of Dutch painting. Presumably Pleydenwurff was a teacher of Michael Wohlgemuth. His son Wilhelm Pleydenwurff together with Michael Wolgemut executed woodcuts for the Chronicle of Hartmann schedel. Another son of Hans Pleydenwurff Sebald moved to Eisleben, his profession is not known. Father Hans was allegedly Kunz Pleydenwurff, a famous painter of Bamberg, as well as the mayor of the city.
