The main theme of creativity – the life of the Mordovian and Russian village. Born in the village of Kochelaevo Penza province (Mordovia). Began to draw since childhood, he worked in the artel of icon painters, and later painted portraits of wealthy countrymen. Studied at the Drawing school TNX in St. Petersburg, where he completed a 6 year course in 3 years (1892 – 1895), and the St. Petersburg AI (1895 – 1900) by I. Repin. In 1900 received the title of artist for the painting "Letter from war". Constant participant of exhibitions of the St. Petersburg AI and Petersburg T-VA artists since 1905. Honored art worker of Mordovia ASSR, RSFSR, people's artist of Mordovia, awarded the order "badge of Honor". Works are in the collections of the state Russian Museum, the Mordovian KG im. F. sychkova, the Mordovian Republican Museum of fine arts named after S. Erzya.
