Andrew's Descent - a street in the Podilsky district of Kyiv, connecting Podil with Old Kiev. It runs from Kontraktova Square to Vladimirsky and Desyatinnaya streets.The upper part of the Andreevsky Descent appeared on the way that, during the times of Kyiv Rus, Old Kyiv (Hora) and Podil connected Old Orchestra (Uzdichalnytsia) and Zamkova, Chorevitsa and Starokyivska Mountains. During the Middle Ages, the branch of Andrew's Descent was laid and to the castle on Mount Kiselyovka. In 1711, it became suitable for use not only for pedestrians and horsemen, but also for the journey of harnessed horses and oxen. The name of the descent was received, presumably, in the XVIII century from St. Andrew's Church.The main building of the street was made in the 90's of the XIX - the beginning of XX century. Nowadays, reproduced in the ancient form, the descent is a place of exhibition-sale of paintings and products of folk art in the open air. St. Andrew's Descent is called the Kyiv Montmartre.
