Johann Wilhelm Schirmer (German. Johann Wilhelm Schirmer; 7 September 1807, jülich — 11 September 1863, Karlsruhe) was a German landscape painter and the schedule.
In the years 1821-1824 the young Schirmer studying the craft bookbinder in his father's Studio. Parallel self-taught masters figure, and since 1826, is a student at the düsseldorf Academy of arts from F. W. von Schadow. Under the influence of the artist Karl Friedrich Lessing Schirmer enjoys landscape painting.
Since 1834 he has been teaching at the düsseldorf Academy, 1839 — Professor. Schirmer (along with Lessing) was one of the founders of the Düsseldorf school of painting. In 1838 Schirmer makes a trip to Normandy, after which in his paintings puts more emphasis on the pattern and shades of color. In 1840, traveling to Italy, writes paintings on biblical grounds. In 1854 the artist to become the first Director of the newly opened Art school in Karlsruhe. In his last years Schirmer actively used religious-biblical scenes, and his brushwork is impressionistic.
Among the students of I. V. Schirmer should be called by such masters as Arnold...., Hans Thomas, Oswald Achenbach, Anselm Feuerbach, Jacob Becker, Rudolf EPP, Carl Friedrich Duiker.
