Chrysanthemum

Painting, 1905, 98×98 cm

Description of the artwork «Chrysanthemum»

"Chrysanthemums" – one of the brightest and joyful still life Igor Grabar (we think the best, but we try not to be categorical!). In the warm season Grabar preferred to write still-lifes. For landscapes favourite season it was winter. In "the Chrysanthemums", the artist has combined tea and floral still life. This painting is not the result of spontaneous inspiration, but the result of purposeful work. Luxury Golden flowers for her has been specifically purchased from a Moscow florist Noah's.

Early 1900s – the time of maximum passion Grabar aesthetics of impressionism, and the whole picture is a Symphony of light. The light plays in the facets of crystal vases, is reflected off shiny plates, the light shines bright Sunny flowers, he generously pours through the window and splashing on the tablecloth, which serves as the backdrop for this festive radiant rampage. Own paintings of that period Grabar described the definition "Terry divisionism in nature". To lay color on canvas like the canvas is a palette of colors to play with reflections, intriguing contrasts – in this case, a dazzling Sunny yellow chrysanthemums and cool blue instruments and a generous helping turn a white tablecloth in a sudden rainbow – he does it all, and obviously enjoys the game, and involves in it the color of joyful madness of the viewer. Fractional strokes, which is written light-air environment, like make the space trembling, shimmering and vibrating. Material objects – vases, plates, flowers, tablecloth – acquire the properties of light and shadow, they seem almost as elusive as a sunbeam, bitter scent of chrysanthemums and reflected from the crystal face to the light.

The painting became a collector Vladimir Hirschmann and said that he paid as much as Grabar has ever received for any of their work.
