Familiar birds carried him beneath a dome of sky made of fibrous mobile matter. Shimmering islands of color swirled in spirals of galaxies, and stars escorted their flight with indifferent beady eyes.

In time, he learned to recognize how the sounds around him-the rustling of the wind, the whistling of wings, and the barely discernible rustles in the distance-folded into a chorus of whispered voices. They all repeated the word: "Starfall." The blossoms were calling him to a new and unexpected journey.

It was not the first time he had had such dreams, and he knew that when he awakened he would see a flock of silently waiting blue birds all around him.
