"Super" was the nickname of a famous local Tusheti shepherd in the Caucasus mountains.
When I came first to the remote valley of Tsovata in Tusheti in 1998 he resided in his castle of shabby shepherd barns called "Hotel California" that functioned as a collecting station for all the cheese wheels from the shepherds of this valley.
He was a huge strong Georgian man and had fought in several wars in the break-off conflicts of the Post Soviet empire and had a metal plate implanted in his fore-head.
Everything he owned was the best available. The best horse, the best dog, the best gun. He was a crazy and warm man. A real Caucasian. A real Georgian.
A few years later I heard he emigrated to Spain and died there.
I painted the painting in 1998 in Rustavi, freshly from my impressions in the mountains.
