Paul Gauguin worked to develop a style of painting called "Cloisonnism". Adherents of this method outline the figures on the canvas in dark colors and then fill the "sectors" with rich colors. The colors are almost unmixed and clearly separated by contours. Also in the paintings of Gauguin almost no shadows. Characters of paintings, as if they are themselves colored shadows.
