This work marked the beginning of a large cycle, performed in various materials and techniques, later united by a common name. In 1993, the compositions of the cycle “Mystical Images” made up the main part of the exposition of the artist’s personal exhibition in the Kiev Central Scientific Library of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine named after V.I. Salvador Dali and Russian artists of the mystical direction ”, within which a detailed exposition of the main works of the cycle was presented.

Cycle “Drawings by one line“. 1989-1994

The cycle is based on the idea of the most accurate transmission of a person’s image using a line. All drawings were made from life with ink or ink on paper, sometimes with a brush. A characteristic feature of many of the pictures in this cycle is the linear transfer of form and light and shade. The models for the artist were friends with whom Nikolay Sednin met and talked during his work in Odessa. Later the cycle was continued in Riga and in Moscow. In 1996, a version of the book “Drawings by One Line” was published in Odessa’s “Versiya” publishing house, in which about 40 works of the author are presented.

The cycle “Emotional constructions”. 1991-1995

In 2012, the compositions from the series “Emotional Constructions” were exhibited in the framework of the international art project of the Arden Gallery in Moscow “Masterpieces of the Future and the Present. Works of outstanding contemporary artists and antique painting of the 18th — 20th centuries. ”

The poem "Hour's Book". 1992

The poem was conceived in Leningrad in 1989 as a literary-graphic game on the daily at the time public poetic readings of Nikolai Sednin. A few years later, the text of the poem and its visual version were reworked in Odessa and decorated in the form of graphic posters. In 1992, the poem "Hour's Book" as a full cycle of graphic compositions was exhibited in Kiev, in the halls of the Central House of Artists at the All-Ukrainian exhibition "The Artist and the Book".

Cycle “Composition“. 1992-1997

The first drawings of the cycle started in Odessa, continued in Kiev and in Moscow. The cycle was conceived as the author's “collection of ideas“ for the subsequent implementation of graphic compositions in other materials and techniques. In 1996, in Odessa, based on the drawings, an album of 19 silk-screen printing “Mystery of himself” was published. In the same year, in Moscow, in the Cappuccino Gallery, a personal exhibition of drawings “Food for the Soul” was held. In 1999, drawings from the series “Composition” become laureates of the international competition “Illustrators of the Future Contest” in Los Angeles. In 2002, the Moscow publishing house “One of the Best” released an album representing 50 drawings from the cycle.

Cycle “Archicona“. 1993-2014

The graphic module named by the artist “Archicona” was developed in 1992–93 based on the study of the sacral geometry of ancient cultures, as divine proportionality, in a geometric interpretation of the cosmos. For 20 years, in different years, the “Archicon” cycle included sculptographic collages, architectural, graphic and font compositions. In 2014, for advertising catalogs of the construction group of companies “Diat”, the artist develops the project “Figures from behind the looking glass”, based on the principles of “Archicons”.

The cycle “ABC for two”. 1993-1995

"The life of people remains in letters." Working as the chief artist of one of the central newspapers of Kiev, in 1993, Nikolai Sednin received an order to develop the design of this newspaper, which should reflect the new state policy of Ukraine. Studying the history and symbolism of the ancient Slavs, the artist creates an alphabet based on one of the oldest versions of the trident of princes Rurikovich. By turning the ancient symbol at different angles, or mirroring its individual parts, capital letters of the alphabet and a decorative frieze are created to decorate each letter. The project presented by the chief editor of the newspaper, at a meeting of the city council causes a scandal, the artist is accused of nationalism and dismissed from office.
Nikolai Sednin returns to the project a few years later, during the study of sacred symbols, emblems, petroglyphs and the ancient art of the peoples of the East. Each letter of the alphabet is made into a separate composition with erotic symbols of male and female beginnings. In 1996, a version of the book “The Alphabet for Two” was published in Odessa’s “Versia” publishing house, which also included sketches for the cycle. In 2010, in Moscow, based on the “Alphabet for Two” cycle, the video art of the same name was made.

Cycle “Pictures for meditation“. 1993-1994

In 1993, Nikolai Sednin conducted a creative experiment in which the task was set to verify the idea, designated by him as the “let go effect”. The works were created with a blindfold brush on paper, and each image was executed within a few seconds. Later, the work was collected in a single cycle, called "Pictures for meditation." In 1995, a version of the book “Pictures for Meditations” was published in Odessa’s “Versiya” publishing house, in which 40 papers were collected.
As a result of the experiment, Nikolai Sednin came to the idea of a possible purposeful change of consciousness in the process of creation. The cycle formed the basis for the development of the author's methodology for the rehabilitation of the psyche and the direction of D-Art.

The cycle "Improvisations on the patterns." 1995-1998

The significance of this cycle lies in the plastic game that the artist invented - the whole cycle is performed on patterns for sewing fashionable clothes from the popular magazine "Burda". On top of the lines from the journal patterns, Nikolai Sednin creates spaces and images that are organically intertwined. The cycle "Improvisations on the patterns" actually became the forerunner of the main discovery of the artist - the "D-Art" cycle. In 1996 the compositions from the cycle were included in the catalog of the exhibition “Nikolay.Sednin. State Tretyakov Gallery ”.

D-Art cycle. 1993-2002

D-Art (Greek: dis - twice, art - art) is a postmodern trend in art, founded by Nikolai Sednin in 1994. The most important component of D-Art is not a certain stylist, but the positive perception of the surrounding reality by artists.
In 1993, the author was interested in the specificity of the appearance of visual images in adults with an uncontrolled psyche, which led to the idea of creating a creative team in a specialized institution. In 1994, Nikolai Sednin, on a volunteer basis, organized an art studio called “Healing by Art” at the psycho-neurological boarding school No. 20 in Moscow. During the lessons, he created the basic principles and practical method of the program for the rehabilitation of the psyche.
The result of creative activity was the opening in 1999 of an art gallery, which most fully represents works of art and graphics from among those created in the studio "Healing by Art". In 2000, thanks to the constant renewal of the collection of works, the studio received wide publicity in the media and attracted the attention of the Russian Association of Art Critics. Since the author's methodology and style of the works was recognized as individual and non-standard, it became necessary to determine the artistic direction. So the term "D-Art" appeared.
In 2001, under the patronage of the Association of Art Critics, the album D-Art - Art of the XXI Century was published. The results of the program were presented in 2002 in the State Duma of the Russian Federation, where an exhibition of the artist and his students took place.
In 2004, Nikolai Sednin was awarded the International Man of the Future Award in Moscow for creating his own art movement in art.

Cycle “Reflections“. 1998

The original name of the cycle is “Reflections in a champagne bucket”. The cycle of drawings was made in Moscow, in the apartment of a friend of the artist Evgeny Tsykanovsky. In 2003, at a retrospective exhibition of the artist in the Moscow gallery "Arden" most of the drawings of the cycle "Reflections" were acquired in the collection of one of Moscow banks.

The cycle “Pictures for Yana and Mikhail”. 1998 -2010

At the end of 1998 in Moscow, commissioned by businessman Evgeny Tsykanovsky, the artist decorated the rooms of his children, Yana and Mikhail. Pictures for children's rooms are conceived by the author as symbolic parting words for adolescents going into adult life. Later, in 2010, a composite photo portrait of Yana was made based on a song by Russian rock bard Veni Drkin “When the Bad Weather“.

The cycle “Portraits“. 1998-2018

Work on custom portraits began after the artist moved to Moscow. In 2000, Nikolai Sednin is the author of the first growth portrait of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and in 2018 the author of the last customized portrait of President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev. For many years, the artist periodically executes orders for portraits of famous political, business and cultural figures, meets the President of the Foundation for Supporting Social Educational and Cultural Programs "Arden" Tatyana Panich, French film actor Pierre Richard, People's Artist of Russia Vladimir Etush, an outstanding fashion designer Pierre Cardin, President of the World Association of Women Entrepreneurs Leyla Hayat.
In 2002, in the State Duma of the Russian Federation, works from the series “Portraits” were presented in the project “D-Art - Art of the XXI Century”. In 2012, the portrait of Vladimir Etush “The Great Illusionist” is exhibited in the framework of the international art project of the Moscow gallery “Arden” “Masterpieces of the future and the present. Works of outstanding contemporary artists and antique painting of the 18th — 20th centuries. ”

Cycle “Cocoon“. 2002-2004

Work on the photo project started in Moscow as an advertising campaign commissioned by Max Master, a supplier of European fabrics for textile interior design. Later, the order grew into a large cycle of photocomposition “Cocoon”, the work on which was continued as a creative project. In 2003, compositions from this cycle were published in the annual catalog of the best designs of Moscow publishing house Index Design and Publishing. In 2005, the composition of the cycle was awarded the silver medal of the international competition “Magic Of Photo” in Russia. In 2008, several compositions from the cycle become winners of the international project Photokonkurs in Israel. In 2010, the composition of the cycle Cocoon “became the winner of the international photo contest of the magazine“ Cleo ”in the nomination“ Nu ”. In the same year, the composition of this cycle becomes the laureate of the international project Photoawards, Moscow.

Cycle “Cell”. 2003-2005

"The bird in the cage, the soul in the body, the man in the room." In the summer of 2003, the “Cage” cycle was started in a room specially prepared for filming. The cycle is an allegorical image of girls and birds, equally unsuccessfully seeking to escape beyond the confined space. Figures are trying to "inhabit" their territory. Symbolic framing turns each composition into a kind of box with additional compartments, which creates the illusion of comfort in space. At the heart of the cycle are multi-figured collages that create the illusion of a microcosm. A central character also appears - the Master of the Cell, operating with sacred pentagrams and based on them invisibly building new spaces for familiar characters. The image of the door indicates a possible transition to a new dimension, another reality left over. In this cycle, the law of gravity and the usual shape of the figures lose their importance, giving way to the "intracellular" order. People are no longer prisoners of these walls.
In 2011 in Paris, at the photo contest PX3 PRIX DE LA PHOTOGRAPHIE PARIS, the largest in Europe, the photo sequence from the “Cell” cycle was awarded two gold medals in the nominations “Fine Art / Nudes - Professional” and “People's Choice Awards”. In 2012, works from this cycle were awarded the Gold Medal Of Excellence “Trierenberg Super Circuit” Gold Medal of Excellence competition at the world photographic “Oscar”.

Cycle "Sodvizheniya". 2005

The photographing of the nude model in the multi-exposure mode was made in Moscow, in the artist's photo studio as an experiment, which the author does not attach importance to for a long time. A few years later, looking through the archives, the artist collects the material he had previously shot and exposes as a separate cycle to decorate the interiors of several night clubs in Moscow. In 2011, the composition of the Sodvizheniya cycle was awarded the special prize of the FIAF International Salon “XVI INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION”, San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy.

Cycle “Weird Sisters“. 2005-2007

“The Legend of Women Running the Story of History.” According to legend, at the origins of all things was the goddess Wird (Mother Earth), which later turned into sisters - The one that was, The one that is, The one that will be. All of them were called the goddesses of fate (Weird Sisters) at whose power the past, present and future of each of the people.

Cycle “Fetish“. 2004-2009

Photocompositions, later combined into one cycle, were created with different photo models of Nikolai Sednin and initially existed as isolated works, made to order. The “Fetish” series has become one of the artist’s most successful commercial photo projects. In November 2007, the Russian edition of the Penthouse magazine publishes a large detailed article “Sednin Today and Always”, where for the first time in Russia, the author’s photo compositions relating to the erotic subculture are posted. In 2008, the composition of the cycle “Fetish” became the winner of the international project “Photokonkurs” in Israel.

Cycle "Ties". 2004 - 2009

Since 2003, the artist has been passionate about the erotic subculture and has been actively involved in the formation and development of the community in Moscow and in Russia. As the author of “D-Art” and methods for the rehabilitation of the psyche in the process of creativity, Nikolay Sednin seeks to enrich his psychotherapeutic experience with new knowledge about hidden creative possibilities, considering this subculture as part of ancient Eastern, Slavic and European practices leading to psychophysiological evolution in development personality.
The “Ties” cycle is the most controversial and provocative photo-project of the artist, in which the erotic subculture is declared as an art hidden from prying eyes for a select few. In 2009, a detailed essay by Andrei Cers, a writer, artist, and literary critic, was published in 2009 in New York, entitled “The Principle of Sednin's Pyramid,” dedicated to the “Bond” cycle.

Cycle "Her Mask". 2008

In 2012, compositions from this cycle were awarded the FIAP honorary award in the “Nudes” nomination of the international competition “INTERNATIONAL SALON OF PHOTOGRAPHY”, “Women”, Serbia.

The cycle "Toys and people." 2008-2011

The next composition “12 rabbits“ won in the nomination “Style” at the photo contest “Best of Russia”. The presentation of video art was a great success at the City University of New York as part of the international festival of documentary films and animation. In 2010, in Moscow, the presentation of video art “Horror Carnival” took place in the framework of the international Fetish festival “Night of Fairy Tales” at the “Solaris” club.

History of creation
In the second half of the 20th century, the following terms began to be widely used in world psychiatry: bibliotherapy, art therapy, music therapy, enthusiastic therapy, therapy of creativity.
In 1989, the term "therapy of creative expression" was proposed in Stormy. The author studied the positive influence of the creativity of patients with neurosis, psychopathy and low-progreduated schizophrenia on their emotional and behavioral disorders.
In 1993, the artist Nikolai Sednin conducted a creative experiment in which the task was set to verify the idea, designated by him as the “let go effect”. The works were created with a blindfold brush on paper, and each image was executed within a few seconds. Later, the works were collected in a single cycle, called drawings for meditation.
As a result of the experiment, Nikolay Sednin came to the idea of a possible purposeful change of consciousness in the process of creation. He connects the seemingly irreconcilable beginnings with a tight knot - impulsive artistry and rational adjustment, elements of expressive abstraction with objectively manifested images. ”Said Stanislav Ivanitsky about him.
Work on custom portraits began after the artist moved to Moscow. In 2000, Nikolai Sednin is the author of the first growth portrait of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.

“The main secret is man. The main task is to understand yourself. The main means is spiritual work. Art is one of the points of application of our efforts and a reflection of internal growth. The pledge of successfully lived years can only serve the fruits of our labors, respectively, perceived by descendants. While we are alive, one or another assessment cannot be objective, because the process of change in ourselves does not stop. ” Nikolai Sednin.
