The most beautiful of pastels. "Perfect Chocolate" Liotara

Exhibition September 28, 2018 − January 6, 2019
ThisExhibition dedicated to one of the most famous works in the Dresden Old Masters Gallery - "The Perfect Chocolate" by the Geneva artist Jean-Etienne Lyotard (1702 - 1789). He was a great success as a pastelist - even Rosalba Carriera, the most famous artist who worked in this technique, declared “Chocolate Girl” “the most beautiful pastel ever seen”.

At this exhibition “The Perfect Chocolate Girl” is presented for the first time in the context of the creative work of Lyotard as a whole. More than a hundred outstanding works, including about forty paintings borrowed from large international institutions and private collections, give an idea of the master's artistic achievements. Pastels, oil paintings, drawings and prints illustrate the versatility of this painter.

The artist himself, after his travels in the Ottoman Empire and Moldova, wore a magnificent beard and fur hat in the “Turkish” style - this image is also represented at the exhibition. During his stay at the court of Maria Theresa in Vienna, he won the confidence of the ruler and made many of her portraits, including in Turkish clothes.

Two interactive media stations provide visitors with additional information. One - about the trips of Lyotard in Europe, the other - using the technique of pastel painting according to the results of scientific research of the “Perfect Chocolate Woman”. Thanks to the support of the famous Parisian manufacturer La Maison du Pastel, you can see how high-quality pastels are made.
