Arkady Petrov. There is no happiness without love

Exhibition March 29 − June 3, 2018
Contemporary Art Gallery ARTSTORY presents the project “Arkady Petrov. There is no happiness without love. ”.

The exhibition includes paintings and sculptures of different years, from the 1970s. to this day, one of the leaders of the generation of "artists of the 70s" Arkady Ivanovich Petrov. The artist made the pristine life of a “little” person from a totalitarian state, the work and leisure of residents of working-class settlements, sketches of provincial life, visual images of Soviet-era mass culture, the naive attraction of kitsch as the main themes of his work.

Arkady Petrov was born in 1940 in the mining community of Komsomolets, near Gorlovka, Donetsk Region. In the Soviet years, his works were practically banned for official display. And only by the end of the 1980s the artist became more and more famous, his works begin to participate in large exhibitions and auctions.

All the impressions of the artist’s uneasy childhood flourish in the titles of the works, in the self-contained inscriptions on the pictures, which still draw themes to the visual images of the Soviet era: “There is no happiness without love”; “Fate will make us part, but it will not make us stop loving”; "At the resort"; "Glory to Labor. Repair bags "; "Hello to our gardeners"; "Wait for me"; "Be ready"; "Intimacy at home" and others.

Author's texts of the artist - original sketches dating back to the 90s of the twentieth century - can be found in the art album published for the exhibition project. With many texts and works presented at the exhibition, the viewer will meet for the first time.
