Catherine the Great in the country and the world
Exhibition February 15 − May 28, 2018
Russian Museum invites everyone in the castle to the exhibition "Catherine the Great in Russia and the world". The project is dedicated to reflecting the role of Empress Catherine II in-depth domestic and geopolitical transformations, which were rich in the second half of the XVIII century.
The exhibition presents more than 500 exhibits, including paintings and graphic works, sculpture, porcelain and glass, works of applied arts, costumes and archival documents.
The exhibition includes portraits of the Empress and her contemporaries, painted by such masters as Ivan Argunov, Dmitry Levitsky, Fyodor Rokotov, Stefano Torelli, Johann Baptist Lampi the elder, Josef Kreuzinger, Salvatore tonchi and others. In addition to paintings, the viewer will see the sculptural portraits made outstanding master Fyodor Shubin, Italian sculptor Jacopo Monaldi and others. In addition, the exhibition can be seen allegorical works representing the Empress as Minerva's warrior and patron of the arts.
Among the exhibits – the Crimean landscapes and battle scenes on land and sea Mikhail Ivanov, the naval battle at Cesme Jacob Philipp Hakkert, types of Bakhchisarai, Nikolaev Fedor Alekseev.
The exhibits are taken from collections of the Russian Museum, The state historical Museum, The Pushkin Museum. A. S. Pushkin, The Tretyakov gallery, Hermitage, museums "The Moscow Kremlin", "Pavlovsk" and "Peterhof"and other museums and archives and private collections.
