THE TOPOLOGY OF THE IMAGE

Aspan Gallery presents the first solo exhibition of a famous Kazakh artist Alexander UGA. It presents already software photos and videos by UGA and created especially for the exhibition "Obscuration" – new photographic objects, invented by the artist and working on the principle of pinhole camera, allowing to capture and objectify the image of some places in the space-time continuum. In his work in Almaty, the artist explores themes of memory and nostalgia, showing a great interest in photography – digital and analog – as a way of capturing and archiving. A video of UGA aimed at studying the relationships between collective and personal memory and space, the artist focuses on the concept of time and its flows.

Alexander ugay represents the generation of artists of Kazakhstan, declared itself in the beginning of 2000-ies. The artist has already received wide acclaim abroad, his works have participated in Museum exhibitions and biennials around the world, including exhibitions at new York's New Museum and Paris, Centre Georges Pompidou. Exhibition in Aspan Gallery was the first solo show of the artist.
