Robert Falk

Exhibition January 16 − May 23, 2021
The State Tretyakov Gallery in the halls of the New Tretyakov Gallery is holding a monographic exhibition "Robert Falk".

The exposition features about 200 of the best works of the artist from 19 museum collections, including foreign ones, and 24 private collections. This project is the first retrospective of such a scale, which most fully represents the artist's career - from the early impressionistic works of 1905-1909 to the works of the 1950s - and shows the versatility of the painter's legacy and its significance.

Visitors will get acquainted with the work of an outstanding painter, classic of Russian art of the twentieth century, one of the leaders of the Jack of Diamonds, an iconic figure of the Thaw - Robert Rafailovich Falk (1886-1958). Falk's special role in the history of Russian art lies in the fact that he became a mediator between European painting and Russian art of the 1910s – 1920s, on the one hand, and the emerging art of the thaw period, “nonconformism”, on the other, because for many unofficial artists he was a classic through whom contact with real painting traditions was made.
