Mauritshuis Royal Gallery presents an exhibitionJohan Maurits and Mauritshuis.
Visitors will be able to see ten paintings and sculptures from the gallery's collection that tell the story of Count Johan Maurits.
Mauritshuis was built for Count Johann Maurits of Nassau-Siegen (1604-1679) - so it is literally the home of Johann Maurits. The Count was appointed Governor of the Dutch colony of Brazil by the Dutch West India Company (WIC). Maurits ruled the colony from 1636 to 1644 and used his Brazilian income to build his private residence in The Hague. The exposition will allow visitors to form the image of the person who gave the museum its name, to better get to know all the dark and light sides of his personality.
