Secrets of Rotterdam Art Workshops

Exhibition May 24 − August 24, 2020
The Boymans van Böningen Museum holds an exhibition "Secrets of Rotterdam's art workshops".

The exposition presents paintings by six artists who worked in Rotterdam from the 17th to the 20th century.
The works presented reveal the secret of the workshops of Hendrick Sorg, Peter de Hook, Nicholas Mui, George Hendrick Breitner, Kees van Dongen and Dolph Hankes.

Being the sons of a sailor and a market merchant, mason, wallpaper painter, grain broker, malt and cafe owner, all six artists had real "roots" in Rotterdam. Stories, paintings and objects related to these artists give visitors the opportunity to look into the past of Rotterdam and the lives of these artists: they painted their everyday surroundings, the streets where they lived, and the people they saw.
