Spanish colonial painting from the collection of Karl and Marilyn Tom

Exhibition January 3 − December 27, 2020
Houston Museum of Fine Arts Presents Exhibition“Spanish colonial painting from the collection of Karl and Marilyn Tom”.

The exhibition presents the best examples of religious and secular paintings of European artists of the XVII-XIX centuries from the famous private collection.

The collection includes more than 160 works, including works by Spanish and Latin American authors, representatives of the "golden age" of Spanish painting. During the colonial rule of Spain in South America, artists and sculptors created works of the highest skill, but rarely signed their work. That is why a significant part of the exhibits is presented under "unknown authorship." Among the identified authors are Bernardo Beatty, Joaquin Gutierrez, Bernardo Rodriguez, Eliab Metcalf.
