De Mena, Murillo, Zurbaran. Masters of Spanish Baroque
Exhibition January 24 − November 21, 2020
The National Museum of History and Art (MNHA) in Luxembourg is temporarily a haven for vibrant 17th-century Spanish art. This is a unique opportunity to get acquainted with this little-known aspect of the Spanish Golden Age and discover the art of baroque, fully serving the faith.
In addition to paintings by famous artists such as Murillo and Zurbaran, the highlight of the exhibition is a set of eight hyperrealistic sculptures by the great Baroque sculptor Pedro de Mena.
Onexhibitionoriginal x-ray results of the eight sculptures presented are also presented. Implemented as part of an extraordinary collaboration with the medical imaging service of the Hospital du Nord Center (CHDN) in Ettelbrück, it allows the visitor to plunge “into the bowels” of these works. Visitors will also be able to familiarize themselves with the technique of polychrome on wood thanks to model samples made by the MNHA restoration department.
