City extravaganza. Exhibition of Russian poster of the late XIX - early XX century

Exhibition February 28 − June 28, 2020
Russian State Library holds a unique exhibition“City extravaganza. Exhibition of the Russian poster of the late XIX - early XX century ".

The exposition includes more than 200 posters, packaging, price lists, everything that illustrates the diversity of commercial advertising until 1917. In this genre, both little-known artists and outstanding masters who have gone down in the history of Russian art have tried themselves: Valentin Aleksandrovich Serov, Ivan Yakovlevich Bilibin, Mikhail Alexandrovich Vrubel, Evgeny Evgenievich Lansere, Lev Samoilovich Bakst, Konstantin Andreyevich Somov, Victor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov, Konstantin Alekseevich Korovin .

At the new exhibition, you can see not only commercial posters that have become the forerunners of modern outdoor advertising. Both patriotic and charitable posters of the times of the First World War are presented. Visitors will see the first Russian movie posters that laid down the basic principles of film advertising, which are used today. For the whole variety of posters, one can judge the social and cultural life of Russia at the turn of the century.

Judging by the advertising about the life of Moscow a hundred years ago, then this is a real extravaganza - bright, alluring, fascinating. Posters advertise goods, offer a new lifestyle, call to resorts and travel, invite to exhibitions and balls, lure them into a cinema, where everyone can get closer to the "upper world", feel like a brilliant beauty or a fashionable beauty. The exposition allows viewers to see the dream world of the turn of the XIX — XX centuries and compare it with the ideas of modern man.
