Gerhard Richter. 100 self-portraits

The artist’s self-portrait is an unusual portrait genre, as the author portrays himself. Since the Renaissance, these paintings testify to the newfound confidence in a person. They represent the stage of the desired "I", serve for constant introspection or cause inconstancy of people, which seems to be eliminated in a self-portrait.

In 1993, Frankfurter Insel Verlag published the first edition of the writings and interviews of Gerhard Richter. This was accompanied by a special edition of 100 copies, each with an original drawing in the book. In addition, 94 pencil drawings were created, which are now privately owned.

The Winterthur Museum of Art for the first time demonstrates this unusuala series of drawingsin collaboration with the Gerhard Richter Archives in Dresden.
