Dreams of freedom. Romanticism in Russia and Germany

The 19th century begins with the crisis of the subject: humanity is threatened by wars and no longer finds its significance in the worldviews of the church and rulers. People and especially artists themselves in their emotional worlds and conscience.

Exhibition "Dreams of Freedom"is dedicated to romantic paintings from the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and Albertinum, such as paintings by Caspar David Friedrich, Karl Gustav Carrus, Alexei Venezyanov and Alexander Andreevich Ivanov.

Romanticism is a time of radical change in Europe, determined by the struggle for freedom. The liberal ideas of the French Revolution spread throughout the continent, and Napoleon hit him with war. Conservative governments in Russia and German states seek to limit civil rights and their dreams of freedom.
