Heritage. Drawings from the Stadel Collection

Exhibition May 13 − August 16, 2020
The Frankfurt merchant and banker Johann Friedrich Stödel (1728-1816) left the Stödel Museum with a large collection of works of art, in which there were paintings and prints, as well as more than 4600 drawings. For a long time it was impossible to track which drawings of the current museum fund were originally from his collection.

For the first time, the Shtedel Museum has for the first time been able to significantly reconstruct the collection of donor drawings and identify about 3,000 works that are still kept in the museum.

"Heritage. Drawings from the Stadel Collection"- A selection of 95 major drawings that show the order and artistic significance of Johann Friedrich Städel's former collection of drawings.

The outstanding works of Raphael, Correggio and Primaticcio, Watteau, Boucher and Fragonard, Dürer, Roos and Reinhart, as well as Goltzius, Rembrandt and de Vit, are presented in a collection organized in accordance with the "European schools" and are discussed in detail in the catalog that accompanies the exhibition.
