Conversations with God. Copernicus by Jan Matejko

Exhibition July 29 − November 15, 2020
The epic painting by Jan Matejko (1838–1893) “Astronomer Copernicus” unites the two most famous figures of Poland.

Despite the fact that Matejko is not particularly famous outside his homeland, he is considered the national artist of Poland. His huge paintings, showing significant events from Polish history, are an integral part of Poland’s national identity.

This painting marks one of the most important names in the history of science, the Polish mathematician and astronomer Nikolai Copernicus (1473-1543), known for his theory, published in 1543, which proposed a solar system with the sun in the center and the planets revolving around it.

"Conversations with God"- a rare opportunity to see one of the most iconic works of art in Poland.
