Exhibition "Self-Portrait of Lucian Freud”Reflects the artistic development of the famous British skater through a unique self-portrait lens. Best known for his portraits of his acquaintances, Lucian Freud (1922–2011) painted his paintings with compositional ingenuity, technical virtuosity and a critical look, and was no less strict in portraying himself. For almost seven decades, Freud has repeatedly returned to self-portrait, creating a work that is one of the most sustainable achievements of his career.
With over 40 works on canvas, paper and prints that span the period from the 1940s to the beginning of the 21st century, this exhibition gathers a lifetime of self-portraits. They trace the evolution of Freud's technique and style: from his linear and graphic early works to a more dense pictorial style, which became a hallmark of his later works. They also show the journey of life from a boy to an old man, in which a constant study of the aging process and the changes that affected his own physical form were actually conducted.
