John Bauer and Magical Nature

Exhibition September 5, 2020 − January 24, 2021
Magical, vibrant nature with deep, mysterious forests and natural creatures such as trolls, elves and nudes is highlighted in this exhibition, where paintings, graphics and sculpture from the turn of the century meet with photographs, installations and video works by contemporary artists.

The main artist onexhibitionis John Bauer, who, with his illustrations for the collection of fairy tales “Plots and Trolls”, had a profound influence on the Swedes' ideas about the mystical and magical power of nature and the forest. At the exhibition, John Bauer's illustrations will be presented in dialogue with his northern contemporary fellow artists such as Theodor Kittelsen and Louis Mo from Norway, as well as Swedish sculptor and art nouveau artist Agnes de Frumery.
