Exhibition "Seascape of the XIX century»Presents an opportunity for viewers to explore the seascape from the museum’s permanent collection. The exhibition includes paintings by artists from Germany, Holland, France, Norway, Italy and Russia.
The presented paintings depict the popular motifs of 19th-century seascapes: along with generalized scenes of storms, artists enthusiastically painted romantic landscapes with rocks at sunset.
The growing interest in the sea, and a new interpretation of this topic appeared in the era of romanticism, when artists associated natural phenomena, especially the changing surface of the water, with a reflection of their emotions. Thus, the stormy sea with its sinking ships became a metaphor for people's resistance to the failures of life.
