Light is my little mirror: engravings by Alison Saar

Exhibition April 4 − July 5, 2020
At the retrospective exhibition "Light is my little mirror: engravings by Alison Saar"presents more than 30 prints and six sculptures.

The artist’s striking graphic works focus on a strong female figure, depicting in a manner reminiscent of African deities, to address racial identity and related issues of gender, heritage and spirituality. Saar's unconventional approach to printing combines historical references and the methods offered by its materials, combined with everyday personal experience.

Combining large collective narratives, including African art and rituals, Greek mythology and the sculptural tradition of German expressionism with individual memories, these extremely inventive images illustrate how Saar's rich artistic practice in various media defies cultural and historical references and stereotypes.
