Beautiful monsters in early European engravings and drawings.

Exhibition November 29, 2019 − March 29, 2020
The National Gallery of Canada hosts the exhibition "Beautiful monsters in early European engravings and drawings.". The exhibition includes engravings, etchings and drawings from the 15th to the 17th centuries, which emphasize the various functions of monsters in the visual culture of early modern Europe. The works show the dynamics of the power of art that can bring a certain beauty even to a monstrous one.

The project introduces the work of Renaissance and Baroque artists such as Albrecht Durer, who skillfully bring monsters to life.
