John Ruskin and his “sworn enemies”: engravings and drawings from the Huntington collection

Exhibition September 28, 2019 − January 6, 2020
ThisExhibitioncombines 16 works of artists whose career was either praised or criticized by John Ruskin, a Victorian writer and scholar.

While he had friends and a few outright enemies, Ruskin's relationship with many artists was more complex, often combining a level of support with a lot of criticism.

The exhibition, taken from Huntington’s permanent collection, includes works by Turner, members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Edward Burne-Jones, great illustrator Kate Greenway, Whistler, and Ruskin himself.
