Touch of color: pastels from the Washington National Gallery of Art

The pastel, known for its vibrant colors and delicate velvety texture, is one of the most versatile and beautiful materials in the history of art.

Artists have found innumerable ways to use this material, from vivid portraits in the eighteenth century to abstract compositions of the twentieth century.

At the exhibition "Touch of color: pastels from the National Gallery of Art“64 exquisite paintings are presented, taken exclusively from the permanent collection. The exhibition traces the history of pastels from the Renaissance to the 21st century and explores the many techniques developed by artists to work with this colorful material.
